Sean Dawson is a
contemporary British abstract painter who was born in London 1964 and grew-up in a small
village on the outskirts of Milton Keynes. He spent his formative adult years
in Northampton, where he initially studied graphic design at Nene College and where he began to explore the alternative music scene. Dawson moved back to London in his mid 20s where he now primarily resides, although he spends a good deal of time travelling to, and working & exhibiting in, Berlin. Alternative & particularly experimental music, continues to be an important inspiration for his work.
Dawson attended St Martins College of Art in 1990 long
before it became the University of the Arts where he was awarded a 1st
degree honours in Fine Art/Painting in 1993 and then went on to achieve his MA in Painting at
the Royal College of Art in 1995. Since then he has been exhibiting extensively
both at home and abroad and is represented by Buchmann Galerie in Berlin. This
year, as part of the New Positions programme, he will be showing a solo
presentation of works at the Cologne Art Fair alongside Buchmann Galerie's main
stand and will be taking part in a group touring exhibition called Abstract
Confusion (starting at b-05 in Montabaur and then Kunstverein Ulm, Germany), which follows on from Kunstforum
International's Jan/Feb 2011 issue (# 206) on New Abstraction. He is also participating in group shows at Fabian Claude Walter Galerie, Zurich and Fahnemann Projects, Berlin in 2011.
